The Merrymeeting Arts Center in Bowdoinham announces its major 2013 summer show “Every Maine Lighthouse” 65 paintings by Ernest DeRaps.

The exhibit will open on Friday May 10th from 5-8 pm with a Special Preview for Teachers. It is hoped that teachers will schedule class visits to the show in either May or September. It is also hoped that teachers will consider building curriculum around the show with topics such as: optics, geography, maritime history, maritime art, visual icons,  Maine art & artists, images of lighthouses etc.  A number of events are are being planned along with the exhibit (Ernest DeRaps will give a slideshow in July). 25th Vail International Dance Festival

The Vail Valley Foundation invites you to the 2013 Vail International Dance Festival, which will begin July 28 and go through August 10 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colorado and the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

The 25th Vail International Dance Festival will feature 11 riveting dance performances under the leadership of artistic director and former New York City Ballet principal dancer Damian Woetzel. Included in the program is a tribute performance featuring ballet sensation Sergei Polunin, along with a performance of George Balanchine’s Serenade with a full orchestra put on by the Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Additionally, the program will feature the highly anticipated return of International Evenings of Dance on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3, with performances showcasing modern dance, ballet, and ballroom classics.  The festival closes with the popular Dance TV, with artists from “Dancing With the Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Best Dance Crew,” and more. This is surely an event that you will not want to miss.

Ticket to Ride Funding

The Maine Arts Commission is here to assist schools with travel costs. The program provides funding to defray the cost of travel for Maine schools wishing to visit Maine arts based venues and events as part of a well-rounded curriculum. Any K-12 school in Maine is eligible to receive support of up to $300 each school year and any K-12 school in Maine with a documented free and reduced lunch student population of 50 percent or greater is eligible to receive support of up to $500 each school year.

SMART Grant

The SMART grant encourages schools, arts organizations/institutions and community based teaching artists to collaborate on the design and delivery of high quality arts learning experiences for pre-K-12 students.
